Fibercorps Social: Social media analytics for trend analysis

Abstract of Blake Lemoine's presentation.

This talk will present the work done by Blake Lemoine during the 2011 Google Summer of Code.  The focus will be on distributed computation methods as applied to the social media analytics domain.  The application developed over the summer does "trend" analysis on custom domains.  Whereas Twitter directly allows you to see what topics are trending globally it does not allow you to see what topics are trending in "american politics".  Fibercorps Social's first application is to provide this functionality.  In addition to this functionality user trust metrics and historical Tweet evaluation were combined to implement a "trend prediction" functionality.  The computational methods and algorithms involved will be discussed in depth at this talk.
