Accessing LINC Storage and Data Directories
How to access the additional storage.
LINC maintains three storage areas that are of interest to their users. These areas are
- Additional User Storage Space
- LINC Data Sets
- Software
While most of the software is oriented to the LINUX machines, where possible, we are providing platform independent software solutions as well.
How to access these directories depends on whether you are on a CACS LINUX machine or a CACS Windows machine.
LINUX
- If you are a member of LINC, you have additional storage space, which is located at
/nimbus/users/your_CACS_ID
- The first data directory contains feature-based, image-based, or
mixed-media data. It is located at
/nimbus/data
- The second data directory contains text-based data. It is
located at
/nimbus/textData
- For software, generally, you shouldn't need to access it
directly. However, if you wish to, the path to the software
directory is
/nimbus/sw
WINDOWS
There are two ways to access the directories.
Drive Mapping
- This should be a one time setup.
- Open the explorer windows.
- Make sure you go to the 'My Computer' Level (you should see the hard drive, any CD/DVD drives, and the S drive (the S drive provides access to your CACS Linux directory)
- Click on tools
- Select Map Network Drive
- To access the LINC User Storage
-
- Select a Drive Letter (other than one in use by the computer. I'd suggest X)
- For the folder, place \\newsamba\cloudusers
- Note, you will see all the directories under cloudusers. To access yours, just navigate to it as normal. You should be able to treat it like a normal windows directory (within reason).
